A High-Stakes Rebrand, Delivered with Flawless Precision
When the team behind some of Sydney’s most successful restaurants decided to transform the former Song Bird space in Double Bay into Gran Torino, an authentic Italian eatery, they faced a monumental challenge: a complete rebrand and relaunch in just four days.
With a new identity to establish and doors opening on Friday, there was zero room for error. This is where Young Graphics came in.
The Challenge
The project involved far more than just new signage. It was a complete conceptual shift, from Asian cuisine to Italian, requiring a total overhaul of the restaurant’s visual identity. The timeline was incredibly tight, and success depended on perfect coordination between the owners, designers, and multiple other stakeholders, all with their own ideas.
The client needed a signage partner who could not only deliver high-quality work under immense pressure but also act as a trusted advisor to navigate the complex pre-launch phase, ensuring the design vision was practical and achievable.
The Solution
Leveraging a relationship built over 10 years and more than 15 successful restaurant branding projects, the client introduced us to their design team simply as “our graphics guy.” This established trust from the outset, allowing us to take a proactive role weeks before the installation.
Our process involved:
- Pre-emptive Collaboration: We worked directly with the designers weeks in advance, providing correct measurements for all signage opportunities and producing precise colour samples to ensure the final product was perfectly on-brand.
- Expert Guidance: We advised the design team on practicality, flagging concepts that looked good on paper but wouldn’t work effectively in a real-world restaurant environment. This prevented costly mistakes and delays.
- Seamless Project Management: By aligning all parties, owners, designers, and installers long before the four-day window, we ensured a fluid and stress-free execution.
This extensive pre-work meant that when the time came for installation, every detail had already been considered, approved, and prepared.
The Result
The result was a stunning collection of beautiful, on-brand signage that perfectly captured the essence of Gran Torino.
More importantly, the entire installation was completed on Monday, well ahead of the Friday deadline. This gave the client valuable breathing room to manage the many other moving parts of the launch, offering complete peace of mind. The execution was so seamless that there was not a single callback required.
By turning a high-stress, high-stakes rebrand into a smooth and predictable process, we empowered the Gran Torino team to focus on what they do best: creating an exceptional dining experience. This project stands as a testament to the trust, reliability, and expertise that form the foundation of our long-term client partnerships.
