When Omafiets, a bustling Sydney inner-city bike shop, wanted to elevate its workshop and retail space, they faced a visual challenge. The vast expanse of cupboards in their huge workshop, while functional, gave it a cluttered, untidy appearance.
They envisioned a bold solution: covering the cupboards with large-scale, soft black-and-white bicycle imagery to unify the space and complement their products.
The Challenge
The project presented a unique set of logistical and technical hurdles that demanded precision and expertise.
- Massive Scale: The graphics were immense, with some sections stretching up to 8 meters. These needed to be applied flawlessly in single, continuous pieces to avoid unsightly seams.
- Complex Installation: The installation required applying the graphics over the cupboards first, and then meticulously cutting openings to restore access to the storage areas, a task demanding surgical precision.
- Operational Constraints: The entire installation, covering over 80 square meters, had to be completed in a single day within a fully operational workshop, requiring our team to navigate around valuable bikes and busy mechanics without disrupting business.
- Durability in a Tough Environment: The graphics needed to withstand the rigours of a greasy, high-traffic workshop. The finish had to be easy to clean and resistant to glare, ensuring the focus remained on the stunning bike photography.
